Measures is a very user friendly program. However, to make the program run smoothly you need certain pieces of information.
We want to discuss the features of Measures and how to find the information
you will need to successfully run this program.
1) TOPICS OF DISCUSSION:
a) Install Measures b) Start a Race c) Second Race of Same Discipline d) Prepare Race Header Information e) Prepare Race Entries f) First Reports g) Generate the Draw h) Print Start Lists i) Input Run Times j) Calculate Race Results; Print the Penalty k) Print Race Results l) Generate Output Files m) Send Results to FIS, Stat Timing & Websites
a) INSTALL MEASURES:
i) Option 1: Download the Measures Install file from the FTP Site and install as per instructions.
iii) Program also installs a folder C:\Measures with subfolders of Events & Points iv) Program installs to C:\Program Files\Measures v) I also add a subfolder Output Files vi) Use these subfolders to save and organize information
b) START A RACE:
i) Open Measures program ii) Click on Open race file iii) Write in a name for your race (i.e. satgsmen, jan21gswom) iv) Click Yes to create new file v) When asked if you wish to copy information from old race file, click No if this is the first race with this group of racers. You will then start a new race with no information
vi) Click Yes for a subsequent race of the same discipline with the same group of racers
c) FOR SECOND RACE OF SAME DISCIPLINE:
i) Click Yes when asked if you wish to copy information from old race file ii) Select race file to copy iii) Click on ]Copy race header information iv) Click on $ Exclude forerunners and weather data v) Click on ]Copy racer information vi) Click on $Exclude racer run times vii) Click on Okay. Confirm Yes viii) For a different discipline with the same group of racers, it is easier not to copy information from a previous race, but instead, to start a new race and pull the racers from the National and FIS lists with their points for that discipline
d) PREPARE RACE HEADER INFORMATION
i) From MAIN MENU click on PREPARE RACE HEADER INFORMATION ii) At any time press F9 to turn on help. This will guide you through information required
(a) RACE TITLES AND PARAMETERS
(i) First line - sanctioning organization name (ii) Second line - discipline and name of event (iii) Next three lines - whatever you wish. Shows up on heading of all reports (iv) Date and location must be in format of DD-MM-YYYY/LOCATION. This shows up at bottom of all reports (v) Discipline - D S G SG KK SC (vi) Race level - FIS NAT SRS(series race) (vii) Gender - F M
(b) JURY AND TECHNICAL DATA
(i) Format for entry of names: J.Doe Can (ii) Must enter elevation before proceeding. If don’t know information make it up and correct it later. (iii) Homologation: Only necessary for FIS. Find on run’s homologation report. (iv) Codex number: 1. FIS: cccnnnn.td# [code for country the race is held in;codex#; TD’s # ( i.e. can5401.371)] 2. Nat: NATnnnn [National; codex# (i.e. nat0048)] 3. To find the FIS codex number: i. Go to www.fis-ski.com ii. Click on Calendar of Events and Results iii. Click on name of your race iv. Click on Races v. To find National codex : vi. Go to www.acapoints.com vii. Click on English or French viii. Click on Race Codex/Results
(c) COURSE SETTERS AND FORERUNNERS
(i) Format for names - J.Doe Can (ii) No. of Gates
1. First box is number of gates
2. Second box is number of turning gates
(d) WEATHER, SNOW AND FACTORS
(i) This screen lists the F factors for each discipline for the season. (ii) The correct F factor is automatically selected when you select the discipline when setting up new race. Each year you will get a program update with the F factors that year (iii) Z factor & category adder. Used for FIS races only. Found on face sheet of printed FIS report or
1. Go to www.ussa.org. Click on Alpine/Quick Downloads/Points List/Alpine, This shows a table of adders for the season and a list of FIS list files. 2. Click on FIS cover page. After it opens Click on “save target as” and save to your hard drive. I save in “C:\Measures\Points” folder.
e) PREPARE RACE ENTRIES
i) To easily insert your entries into Measures, you need a list of racers with their points on your hard drive. The more specific the list is to your race the faster you can do the entries. The best way to get the list you want is to download it yourself
ii) Go to www.acapoints.ca
iii) Click on English or French.
iv) Click Points & Profiles for National races and FIS Points for FIS races
v) For National race select gender, category(i.e. if only a U 14 race), division and discipline
vi) For FIS race select gender and discipline
vii) Select Dump Points to File
viii) Save to C:\Measures\Points
ix) These points files are named so that they are compatible with the Measures program (e.g natm102 or okannat1f) NOTE: Name must contain the letters “NAT” or “FIS”. This is a Measures requirement. They can now be used to add racers to your race file.
(1) ADD RACER TO RACE
(a) Under MAIN MENU click PREPARE RACE ENTRIES and then click ADD RACER TO RACE
(b) Add Racer from a Points File. Click Yes
(c) In the right hand box find C:\Measures\Points and pick the points file you made
(d) Calculate category from birth year. Click No
(e) Screen will show a blank box under NAME. Double click on this box
(f) Scroll down list and check by each racers name you wish to enter. Click Exit
(g) Selection is About to be ADDED TO Race File. Click Continue
(h) Any racer not on the Points list can be added to the race by entering racers name in box, filling in rest of data and clicking Save
(2) CHANGE RACERS NAME
(a) This screen allows you to change the racers name in case of spelling error etc NOTE: DO NOT CHANGE SPELLING ERRORS THAT ARE ON THE “FIS” List or the “ACA Points” National Lists, If you do the Racer may be rejected. To change a spelling error, send a request to FIS or ACA Points through your Alpine Office.
(b) Pick racer box will open when you go to this screen
(c) Double click on racer’s name you wish to change
(d) Make sure you save the changes you make
(3) EDIT RACER INFORMATION - Allows you to edit any of racer’s information.
(4) DELETE RACER FROM RACE - Allows you to delete a racer from the race
f) FIRST REPORTS
i) At this time you will want to print up two reports for the first coaches meeting
ii) Go to MAIN MENU
iii) Click on PRINT REPORTS
iv) Click on COMPETITOR REPORT
v) Click on the Report Options you wish. I suggest you take off the check mark beside Blank points
vi) Include Bib numbers, IF Available. Click No
vii) Click on the Sort Options you wish
viii) Print both a list sorted by name (alphabetical) and by points
ix) For National races I print the list by name, sorted by club, to give to the coaches so they may check their entries
(1) SPECIAL COMPETITOR REPORTS - used to make labels for time cards or entry cards
g) GENERATE THE DRAW
i) From MAIN MENU click on GENERATE OR EDIT DRAW
ii) If you wish to do a computer draw for all racers click on AUTOMATICALLY ASSIGN START POSITIONS.
(1) Information box will tell you what program is about to do. Click continue. Read carefully the next box and pick the number required. Usual number is 15. (2) Confirm this entry (3) ASSIGN START POSITION 1 =BIB#. Fill in with “1”. However, if you have only one set of bibs you will need to start the other gender with a different number. We often assign the girls position 1 = Bib # 101. (4) DO YOU WISH TO SKIP ANY BIB #(MISSING BIB). Answer yes if you have any missing bibs. Enter the first missing number and click Okay . Enter next missing number and click Okay . Continue until all missing numbers are entered. Click Cancel to move to next box. (5) PRINT START POSITION - BIB # CROSS REFERENCE TABLE. This will print a list of the bib numbers and corresponding start position for your reference. (6) Click Yes then click Print. (7) Number of Racers in Top Seed Equals <15> . (8) COMPUTER DRAW THESE TOP SEED RACERS. Click Yes. (9) COMPUTER DRAW RACERS WITH MATCHING SEED POINTS. Click Yes. (10) PRINT COMPUTER DRAW RESULTS. Click Yes then click Print
iii) MANUALLY INPUT BIB AND START POSITION
(1) Use if you do a manual draw of top seed (2) First click on AUTOMATICALLY ASSIGN START POSITIONS (3) Follow instructions above until you get to query: Computer Draw These Top Seed Racers. Click No (4) Assign These Top Seed Racers by their Points. Click No (5) Print Top Racers Requiring Draw. Click Yes (6) Computer Draw Racers with Matching Seed Points. Click Yes (7) Click on MANUALLY INPUT BIB AND START POSITION (8) Pick each racer from the list that is in top seed and enter their bib # and start position. Make sure you save these entries.
iv) INSERT LATE ENTRIES
(1) Used to add entries after the draw has taken place (2) First must add the racer to race. See ADD RACER TO RACE (3) Then click on INSERT LATE ENTRIES and pick racer from list (4) Enter assigned bib # and start position. If inserting racer anywhere but at the end, you will need to manually change start positions for the rest of the field that starts after that racer.
h) PRINT START LISTS
i) Go to MAIN MENU and then to PRINT REPORTS ii) For one run race click on START LIST iii) For two run race click on RUN 1 START LIST iv) Chose Report Options v) Chose Sort Options
At this time, if timer is using dTris program make a copy of the race file on a 3.5” disk, usb stick or email. From MAIN MENU, click GENERATE OUTPUT FILES then click OUTPUT DTRIS FILES
If the timer is using a software that requires a .csv file, make a copy of the race file on a 3.5” disk, usb stick or email. From MAIN MENU, click GENERATE OUTPUT FILES and then click OUTPUT RACE IN .CSV FILE FORMAT, they click on Previous Year’s Live Timing (no column titles)
i) INPUT RUN TIMES
i) In MAIN MENU click on INPUT RUN TIMES
(1) LOAD DTRIS FORMAT RUN TIMES.
(a) Use if timer is using dTris program. Loads times directly into program from a 3.5” disk, usb stick, or email. Find file in A drive for a 3.5” disc or where you have saved it. Type of file:.dat
(2) LOAD CSV FORMATED RUN TIMES.
(a) Use if timer is using Split Second or some other programme that produces a .csv timing file. The timer will need to export the times with the following columns:
(i) Bib (ii) First(Second)Run Start TOD (iii) First(Second)Run Finish TOD (iv) First(Second)Run Results
1. Find the file in A drive for a 3.5” disc or where you have saved it. Type of file: .csv.
ii) MANUALLY INPUT RUN TIMES
(a) Use to add DSQ, DNF, DNS that timer did not record (i.e. after a jury meeting etc.)
(i) Enter Bib number
(ii) If a time is already entered, delete the time and press enter. Time will change to 000.00
(iii) Enter status
(iv) If DSQ, must also enter gate number of disqualification
iii) TWO RUN RACE
(1) For two run races you must go through the process twice
(a) After inputting the first run times click on PRINT REPORTS then RUN 2 START LISTS
(b) Chose Report Options
(c) Enter # of top racers to reverse for second run start list. This is the same number that was in the top seed for the draw (usually 30)
(d) Confirm number
(e) After inputting the second run times proceed to CALCULATE RACE RESULTS
j) CALCULATE RACE RESULTS/PRINT THE PENALTY
i) From MAIN MENU click CALCULATE RACE RESULTS
ii) Chose One Run or Two Run Race
iii) Program will go through calculations
iv) Enter number of FIS list or National list used for seeding
v) Program will print PENALTY CALCULATION to screen. Click Print
vi) Exit from Race Result Calculation Menu
k) PRINT RACE RESULTS
i) Go to PRINT REPORTS
ii) Click OFFICIAL RESULTS REPORT
iii) I use the official results report so the race points show
iv) I write Unofficial on the report before photocopying for racers if the TD hasn’t yet signed it.
v) RESULTS (UN-OFFICIAL) No Race Points - prints a report without race points. Use this if the TD requests that race points not be released
At any time you may reprint reports you have already produced by clicking on REPRINT GENERATED REPORTS
l) GENERATE OUTPUT FILES
i) From MAIN MENU click on GENERATE OUTPUT FILES
ii) OUTPUT DTRIS FILES and/or BACKUP RACE Files
(1) Use to make a copy of file on 3.5” disk for dTris Timing Program.
(2) Use to make a back-up copy of information on 3.5” disk, USB stick, or CD.
(3) May also use to make back-up copy on C drive
iii) OUTPUT OFFICIAL RESULTS FOR WEBSITES
(1) Saves files as *.ofc file which can be attached to an e-mail.
(2) Save to wherever you wish (I make another folder under C:\Measures called Output files and save to there)
iv) OUTPUT www.acapoints.ca Race Upload File
(1) Makes a .xml file. Use for transmission of results to ACA Points website for National races or to FIS
(2) You need to know the model of timer used for race and FIS or NAT points list used.
v) OUTPUT RACE IN CSV FILE FORMAT
(1) Use if need to export file in a comma delimited form. May be opened in Excel and converted to an Excel file
m) SEND RESULTS
i) To Websites (Provincial Alpine Offices, Alpine Canada)
(a) Attach *.ofc file to an e-mail message
ii) To ACA Points for National points (a) Go to website www.acapoints.ca (b) Click on English or French (c) Click on Race Upload (d) Enter your name, e-mail & phone (e) In Codex box find your race. (f) In Filename click browse and find the file you saved in .xml format e.g.. Nat0048.xml ( Again, I save all the output files in my folder C:\Measures\Output files)
iii) To FIS (a) E-mail to email@example.com (b) Attach .xml file (i.e. Can0608.xml) (file must be zipped)
NOTE: For your information, if you have TD reports to send to FIS do not use the above e-mail address use firstname.lastname@example.org.
SO, NOW WHAT?
Use these notes if you get stuck. The program will guide you through all the fields but will not let you go on unless you give it the information it requires. Make sure you know and have the information ready.
